Congratulations, President Barack Obama

November 4 2008, will go down in history and a historic day that the whole world witnessed. The historic event is none other than the election of Senator Barack Obama as the 44th president of the United States of America. In the last few days, newspapers, online news portals are loaded with stories and congratulatory messages of this event.

And in this blog I would like wish to add my congratulation to Obama on his triumph. He is elected as the 44th President and the first African-American president of the United States.

This event is significant and in particular for Americans, as Obama achievement has make the late Reverend Dr Martin Luther King’s dream a reality. Forty five years ago, Dr Martin Luther King gave the famous speech ” I had a Dream” and in that speech he had spoken that he longed for the time when his country would see a man “judged not by the colour of his skin, but by the content of his character”. And on the 4th of November 2008, a Tuesday, Americans made that dream into a reality.

I also take this event to representing the better side of “only in America”. Through out his election campaign, Mr Obama had focused on the theme of hope, unity and change. His message has ignited his country and the world. From his opening of his victory acceptance speech ( extracted below ), it is clear that Obama sees his achievement and story as nowhere but “only in America”.

“If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible; who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time; who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.”

It is this, despite it’s many faults and limitation, the United States remains a land of hope and opportunity that can reward the deserving individual. Maybe this is also what makes the United States strong and influential as it’s citizens can make the changes the country needs, such as electing or making the best available person to be the country’s president, the nation chief executive, regardless of race or belief.

Now that Obama is the President, his job will certainly not be easy, especially at this time. Just as what is posted in this blog when the writer said “But Obama’s acendency to the presidency does not solve all of our problems“. Yes, the problems are serious and the weight of responsibility will be heavy and Mr Obama knew it when he said in his speech :-

“I know you didn’t do this just to win an election and I know you didn’t do it for me. You did it because you understand the enormity of the task that lies ahead. For even as we celebrate tonight, we know the challenges that tomorrow will bring are the greatest of our lifetime – two wars, a planet in peril, the worst financial crisis in a century. Even as we stand here tonight, we know there are brave Americans waking up in the deserts of Iraq and the mountains of Afghanistan to risk their lives for us. There are mothers and fathers who will lie awake after their children fall asleep and wonder how they’ll make the mortgage, or pay their doctor’s bills, or save enough for college. There is new energy to harness and new jobs to be created; new schools to build and threats to meet and alliances to repair.

The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even one term, but America – I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there. I promise you – we as a people will get there.”

Yes you can, Mr President Obama, I know you can do it. Having seen your ability in managing your campaign ( Report :-Campaign Gives Some Clues to How Obama Will Govern ) and over coming crisis and obstacles during the campaign, it’s impressive. And this I believe is what it takes to bring change to your country and the world in the 21st century.

I ,the whole world hope and pray that you and your nation will “get there” eventually in this journey of change and hope that you and your nation has started. God bless you and America.
